I met a parent recently that would not allow her son to wear a hoodie. She said “hoodies for boys are a bad idea”. She felt they promoted a bad attitude and even worse, rebellion. “Only criminal types wear them” she said. I didn’t agree of course, because I had worn them for years and don’t consider myself to be a “criminal type.”
I did however recently read a British news article where a certain style of hoodie was going to be banned rick and morty hoodie. It was a faceless hoodie, one that could be zipped up to completely cover the wearer’s face. It even had two transparent elliptical plastic eyes to look through! Security forces felt it was sinister and allowed wearers to completely conceal their identity. I must admit it was pretty wicked looking and reminded me of someone wearing a gas mask or a full-bodied hazmat suit. It was camo colored and I just knew the wearer had a concealed assault rifle somewhere!
This got me thinking about hoodies in general. I mean, why are they so often associated with criminal behavior now days. It didn’t used to be that way. Didn’t people from all backgrounds just wear them to be casual and stay warm at the same time. When I was a kid we just called them sweat shirts with hoods and you either wore a pullover or one that zipped up. I thought the pockets were what made them cool, one big one across the front you could lock your cold hands in. They even annoyed me at times when I would lose the neck string inside the sweat shirt and it would take me hours to get it back!
I was thinking about all the famous or notorious personalities through history who wore hoodies. There was medieval monks, they wore sort ‘a corny looking dark pullover with hoods. And during the same time the average European peasant wore a hoodie like coat or blanket, right? What about Robin Hood? There was Little Red Riding Hood. The Seven Dwarfs and Snow White herself. Of course so did the wicked queen when she was a witch. In fact a lot of witches ware hoodies! What about Shrek… and Rocky? Now there is a couple or hero types that wore a hoodies (and a beanie in Rocky’s case). What I am saying is just about every stereotype can be found wearing a hoodie at some point and time. Even the Mexican Serape would have a hood on it if Sombreros weren’t so cool!
The point is that hoodies are for everyone even for boys, and they don’t make anybody good or bad. We do that ourselves with or without the hoodie. Hoodies can be designed with certain colors combinations or logos to identify the wearer with a certain lifestyle or group of people and maybe that is were one needs to use a little discernment or common sense but after that I think it just boils down to they are comfortable, convenient and down right practical. So in the end I will continue to wear my hoodie and hopefully it doesn’t upset anyone.
When the cold weather starts to get in, you start looking for the warmest attires to protect you from the cold weather. You however do not want to just wear anything but the best warm clothing that you can get your hands on. Hoodies for a long time have been keeping people warm because they are made from heavy materials and have the hoodie that you can wear on your head to cover it from the bad weather. The hoodie can be said to be in fashion again because it is one of the favorite cold weather attires for many people. In everyone’s closet, it is possible that anything goes and they can wear what they feel like but with the hoodie, you have to know when to wear it, when it is fashionable or accepted and when not to wear it. Hoodies are great for all that casual event like the favorite ball game, running errands or even when working out. During these times, you can wear the hoodies fashionably and even better if the hoodies are designed by a famous clothes designer. However, there are times when despite the cold weather, you should substitute the hoodies with other warm jackets.
This is when you are attending formal occasion like dinner at five-star restaurants, entertaining guests in your home and having dinner with them or even anywhere else where you are expected to look formal. Hoodies are considered as casual clothes for protection from the bad weather. They enable one to keep warm from the head to the waist. Factors that you should consider while purchasing hoodies are they should be fitting enough to allow movement in them. The hoodies should not be too big for you otherwise it is going to look like you are concealing something or like you are fat while you are not and it should also not be too tight to restrict your movement comfortably. The hoodies are available in several sizes for each individual and come with varying designs depending on the designer. Some are plain coloured while others have patterns on them and others have a zipper in front and others do not. The choice to pick one is depended on the person who is purchasing the hoodie. Hoodies are made to offer warmth without being too hot inside and neither letting in cold. There are some that are woven from heavier cloth than others. The heavier hoodies are ideal for extreme cold conditions such as winter season while the lighter ones can be worn on any cold night of any weather.
